Be Humble, Be Gentle, Be Patient - Scripture Tank Inspiration

I love the book of Ephesians. It’s Paul giving encouragement to the church of
Ephesus.  He explain the purpose of the church and shares how we should live as
Christians.  He gives us guidelines and traits all which usually revolve around love.

Whenever the bible tells me to love, I think to myself... "Self, it's the least you can
do. Look how God loved you. He sent his son to die just so you can be reconciled.
He chose to give you life and let his son suffer."

Then I come away all proud of myself, ready to conquer love. Ready to love and
pour my heart out to others...  Then life happens and all is forgotten.

How do I, we, change this?  We do this by continuing to work on our hearts and to
be in his word, but more than just daily; let’s do it in our everything.

What makes this verse even more powerful is Eph. 4:1 “...lead a life worthy of
your calling...”  What kind of life?  An Eph. 4:2 life.  One that’s humble, gentle,
patient, accepting, and loving.

Challenging myself to work on a humble, gentle and patient heart.

Show Truth - Scripture Tank Inspiration

A verse that always hits home. A verse that challenges me always to act on my love and not just think it. So many times we have these great ideas to help someone out. To lift them up. Then life happens and we drop the ball.  It's almost annoying how much it happens to me.

1 John 3:18 - Dear children, let's not merely say we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

John tells us here that truth is love.  He reiterates over and over again how Jesus instructed us to go out and show love, to be love.  He even put some hard hitting verses around this powerful one to motivate us.  Because really, we all need a little motivation to go out and show truth, to go out and love.

Verse 19 - our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.

And verse 16 - we know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our life for our brothers and sisters.

So here is my challenge and my challenge for you.  Go out and live in his truth, act out his love.

Be The Good - Scripture Tanks

Be The Good.  God put Romans 12:21 on my heart the instant I read it.  I thought I would share my thoughts. The inspiration behind these scripture tanks specific to the ones below.

Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good. - Romans 12:21

There is more to this verse. There is a chapter instructing us on what good we can do. The type of good that is God honoring. I encourage you to read chapter 12 in Romans. I love how my Bible sections it out and labels it. "How to behave" this whole section beyond just chapter 12 is Paul giving the Roman Christians (bc that is who he is writing to) guidelines for living as redeemed people in a fallen world.

This verse, chapter, section is so applicable to us today. Actually most of the bible is we just have to dig into each verse and find the meaning. But here, Paul puts it out there for us. It's how we can live out our faith each day impacting those around us. Most of us aren't preachers and sharing God's word is daunting. But living out our personal responsibilities for God's kingdom, showing our faith at work, we can all do.

So what does he say:

  • Use are talents we were blessed with
  • Don't pretend to love others, really love them
  • Hate wrong, hold onto the right
  • Love with genuine affection
  • Honor others
  • Never be lazy, work hard and enthusiastically for the Lord
  • Rejoice in our hope
  • Be patient in troubles
  • Be eager to practice hospitality
  • Bless those who persecute us, never curse
  • Be happy with others, weep with others
  • Live in harmony
  • Don't be proud
  • Be humble
  • Don't take revenge
  • Live in peace

Basically "don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good" the good that we listed above.

Challenging myself to live out his goodness,
