Greatness: World vs Jesus

My devotion this morning addressed the disciples question of greatness. Their quarrel over who was the greatest among them. Luke 9:43-56. I wanted to share a few pieces of what I read with you as it challenged me to think and reflect, “what do I want greatness to look like in my life and where does my soul seek greatness.

Meaning of Mountains and Valleys Parable

Luke shares with us in chapter 3 about a man who was prophesied about way back in the prophet Isaiah's time, roughly 700 years earlier. John the Baptist. This is what was prophesied about him:

"He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the LORD's coming! Clear the road for him!

The valleys will be filled, and the mountains and hills made level.

The curves will be straightened, and the rough places made smooth.

And then all people will see the salvation sent from God.'" (Luke 3:4-6, Isaiah 40:3)

Pray this prayer before you begin. Yearn to study Him, getting to know Him verses what’s in it for us.

Some of the deepest moments of my faith journey has been picking up a good read and letting the charcters inspire me. Christian Fiction or better yet Biblical fiction has a way of opening up our mind into what life MAY have been like back then.
