Jesus is teaching what forgiveness looks like in the Kingdom community. How his followers should respond when wronged. Jesus is saying, don’t keep count, don’t let your heart keep score, constantly forgive the repentant soul no matter how often you are asked to forgive them.
Holding grudges, elevating ourselves over another is something society and ourselves (if we are honest) are very good at. Jesus calls us to be different. He doesn’t call us to be weak and allow people to walk all over us but he does call us to stand up humbly ready to love unconditionally with an understanding and forgiving heart.
