But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. - 1 Timothy 6:11

Paul was encouraging Timothy with this letter; to live differently, to be a man of God and to not live for this world but for the Kingdom eternal.  Instead of pride and riches, Timothy was to make righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness his pursuit.  Things this world may devalue but God finds of utter importance.

Pursue is a very active verb; it’s not idle.  We, like Timothy, need to put our faith into action.   We cannot be passive.  We need to go after righteousness, run after a godly life.  We have a choice as his followers to surrender to this world or stand up and fight the good fight and pursue God’s way.  We don’t all need to be activists or make huge stances but we do live a life of love, sacrifice and gentleness.  We persevere in doing what is right and kind.  We root ourselves in faith, standing firm in His word.  Be reminded to pursue His way and not the worlds’.
