The Unexpected and Surprising Savior
Who is this man that the wind and the waves obey him?
That children are inexplicably drawn to him?
That the poorest of the poor and the marginalized adore him?
That demons flee because of him?
That leprosy is no match for him?
That sinners want to spend time with him?
That the ridged religious would despise him enough to kill him?
And that his closest friends and followers would rather die than deny him?
Susie Larson wrote that in her Prepare Him Room advent devotional. At Christmas we reflect on all the unexpected ways of Jesus. Infant Savior, humble manger, virgin birth, and good news to the shepherds. The same thing goes for Easter. But do we take notice the rest of the year? Do we see God surprising us? Showing up in unexpected ways?
As the end of this daily devotional, Susie Larson writes, “Fast this holiday season from rigid expectations. Be wide open to divine surprises and setups. Open your hands and dare to pray, “surprise me, Lord”
May we be open to His divine surprises.
