A beautiful psalm of confession and seeking restoration. King David penned this psalm after the Prophet Nathan confronted him about his adultery and events surrounding his sin with Bathsheba. The psalm starts out with his confession and plea for forgiveness, and understanding of his wickedness. King David knew his heart needed God and not just a quick clean up but a new heart that would seek after the Lord’s will always. And with that heart he pleaded for a steadfast spirit. One that would guide him to a way of godliness. A humble reliance on the Lord.
Like King David, do we have a heart of confession? a desire for restoration? Do we plead for a clean and godly heart? A renewed spirit? One that is always seeking after the will of God?
We will fall short. Sin will always separate us. But it is the posture of the heart that keeps us connected to the Lord. A deep desire for the God Almighty. For it is the joy of his salvation that sustains us.
