“And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.” - Deut 6:5
This verse comes from the daily Jewish prayer (the Shema) that expresses devotion and love to God. They are to love God with all their heart, soul and strength. How we see the heart, soul and strength is different than the ancient Hebrew writers. To love with the heart is more than a feeling. The heart was also to know, understand and find wisdom in. To love with all of your heart meant to love and devote yourself to the Lord with your whole body, mind, feelings and desires.
To love with your soul was not just some spiritual essence it was to love with your whole physical existence and entire being. Your soul was a living, breathing physical being.
And to love with all your strength was to love intensified. To love with every possibility, opportunity and capacity.
