“whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

Psalm 91 is a beautiful picture of God’s protection when dangers come our way.  When we say ‘yes’ to Jesus, He doesn’t promise us a world of no hurt or sorrow, He promises us that we can find safety and security when we draw near to Him.

To rest in a shadow indicates a nearness.  One must walk very close to another to be in their shadow.  When we walk close to God and dwell with Him, His out-stretched arms are a shield of protection for us.  We have the assurance of His comfort and care.

God wants more than an occasional check in or an “I need you” moment.  He desires us to live or dwell with Him, habitually residing in His shelter.  He desires to walk side by side in every moment of life with us. 

If you read to the rest of Psalm 91, you read all the “I will” declarations God makes when we decide to make Him our shelter.  He will:

• recue

• cover

• shelter

• order

• protect

• hold you up

• trample evil

• answer

• be with us

• reward
