salt and light - tee
Matthew 5:13-16
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Salt and light refers to the way Jesus has asked us to live as Christians in this world. We aren’t called to blend in. But to stand out and be different. Jesus’ ways weren’t the world’s ways. Wonder his ways, read the beatitudes right before this passage.
Before He went up to be with our God, He commanded us to be on mission. Go and tell others about him. Being the salt and light of the earth gives us the key in constantly being on mission for him.
Salt was a natural preservative for them in ancient times. Jesus is asking us to preserve his ways, the Word. Salt is also a seasoning. If salt loses its flavor it has no value. we are to be the salt in the lives of those around us.
Same for light. Jesus is our light that dispels darkness. And if Jesus is light and he lives in us. We are a beacon for others who don’t know Jesus. We are to be the light that draws them in to the Savior.
How we live matters. Not because of our salvation but for the salvation of others. We are saved by faith and faith alone. But others see our faith. How we live out our faith, impacts how they see Jesus. What kind of Jesus are you showing them?
Our prayer as you wear this tee is to be reminded that you are the salt of the earth and the light of the world not for you, not for Jesus, but for those who do not yet know him. Be on mission. Live life for Him.
