Meaning of Pearl and the Merchant

“The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” - Matthew 13:45-46

This simple pearl is to remind us that we are of great value, you are treasured. One of the most loveliest possessions of all. And we serve a God that is willing to give up everything to redeem us. To pay for His beautiful pearl.

You see, in this parable Jesus describes the individual believer as the pearl and the kingdom of heaven as the merchant. The merchant is on lookout for choice pearls. In the ancient world, the pearl was the loveliest of all possessions (Barclay). And when the merchant discovers a beautiful pearl, he sells everything he owns and buys it.

God sees you as beautiful, rare and lovely. He wants you for himself and gave up everything including his son to have you back forever. You, who he values so greatly, are now His in His Kingdom. Be reminded that you are treasured by The Almighty.

Being a Christian is like being a Pumpkin Quote

My lovely mother sent this to me. “Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin” She saw it from Iverson Tree Farm. Not sure if they originated this idea or not. But I love it and wanted to share with you all.

Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin

God picks you from the patch and brings you in.

Then washes all the dirt off of you

He opens you up and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc.

Then He carves you a new smiling face.

And He puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.

Picks you from the patch - John 15:16: You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

Washes the dirt - 2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:; The old has gone, the new is here!

Scoops the yucky - Romans 6:6: For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—

He carves - Psalm 71:23: My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I whom you have delivered.

Puts His light - Matthew 5:16: In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
