Be Hi Good Challenge - Week 5

#BeHisGood

After the July 4th weekend, we are feeling pretty patriotic.  So our Be His Good challenge is based on our American Flag and to those who serve us Nationally and Locally.  Our President and Mayor.  If we can put our biases aside and focus on the fact that we have willing leaders who fight for our freedoms and rights, whether we agree with what Political side they are on, we can make a small difference when saying thank you.

Ps. last year we reached out to both of these individuals so we might thank our state representatives.  #loveallaround people.

The American Flag.  Create this flag proudly and it explain to your children what this flag means. In fact, I looked up the exact meaning,

"white signifies purity and innocence,  Red, hardiness and valour, and blue, signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice."

I, personally, see a flag that represents unity and freedom.  Has that symbolism been lost,  in a large part yes.  But it won't change with complaining.  Our mission as Christians should be to change hearts.  If we want lasting change, we need to be on a mission for Christ that transforms the hearts of human beings, including our leaders.  (preach moment over)

The above image is just one way to create a flag.  Use your imagination, let your child cut out the red stripes in construction paper, use q-tips and dip in white paint on blue paper for the stars, do a basket-weaving of the American flag... I'm telling you, Pinterest has beyond endless options.  Remember it's less about what it looks like and more about the purpose.

Challenge:

Delivering these crafts might be a little difficult, so mailing might be your best option.  Below is the White House address.  For my local city, I addressed to our local mayor and will send to our City Council.  If you are from Cottage Grove, MN  lucky you!  I have it below ;)  I also encourage you to add the hashtag #BeHisGood to help explain the mission to encourage your local leaders and our president.  And remember to write them a special thank you.

Mail to the White House:  1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC20500

Local Mayor Example:   Mayor Myron Bailey, City Council of Cottage Grove, 12800 Ravine Parkway South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016

Then spread the word!

Take a photo and post on Facebook or instagram and use the #BeHisGood or feel free to email me and I’ll post for you ;) carly@sixnotesclothing.com .   Then encourage others to join you in saying thank you to our local and national leaders!

Thank you for joining us this week in being His good.

Be His Good Challenge - Week 4

#BeHisGood

July 4th week is hoppin for lots of people so give yourself a break and just color in those coloring books of yours.  Or if you are naughty like me, grab old crafts and pictures and send those out to just some friends and family.

But if you are still up for a craft... read on my friends.

Librarians!  We love our local library and head there often on cold winter days or rainy summer mornings to play around and read books.  Libraries are such a great place for kids to visit, play and learn to love to read.  So this week we say thank you to our librarians who put forth so much effort in creating a warm and inviting space for us to explore, learn and tap into our imagination.

Book Character.  We have paper plates galore right now at our house and a whole bunch of sparkles, so we'll be creating that beautiful rainbow fish.  But get creative!  Create your favorite book character... or just color a simple coloring sheet of your child's favorite book. Remember this challenge is more about the purpose and less about the project.

Challenge:  Visit your local librarian and say hello!  I guarantee they are the sweetest people ever and will love your crafts that so kindly says thank you for all they do.

Then spread the word!

Take a photo and post on Facebook or instagram and use the #BeHisGood or feel free to email me and I’ll post for you ;) carly@sixnotesclothing.com .   Then encourage others to join you in saying thank you to the wonderful librarians we have to help educate our children.

Thank you for joining us this week in being His good.

Not feelin’ crafty:  buy donuts or bake cookies!  remember there is more than one librarian in most cases.

Be His Good - Week 3

#BeHisGood

The kids and I love the Post Office.  We used to have to go there 2+ times a week for sending out packages.  It was an outing they looked forward to, mainly for the bright smiles they came to know and the ever-so-lovely stickers they received.  FYI to win over a kid... just give them a simple sticker, you'd think they've won the lottery. Plus the parents will love the fact that they weren't filled with more sugar, tooth decay or a slobbery mess.

These days we don't get to enjoy our weekly outing because of technology and the chance to ship from home.  So this week, our Be the Good challenge, my family, personally, is going to revisit the past and say thank you to those men and women who help bring packages and cards to their destination safely all so we can open that precious birthday card or pay that lovely bill.  And I guarantee if you walk in with a smile and take the time to enjoy and not hurry your way through without acknowledging them and their service, you'll get a smile right back and a feeling of gratitude to continue on your day.

Craft:

Postal Truck.  If you grew up like I did in a small town... you really didn't know these cute little trucks existed.  You just thought the same pick-up truck or car that had a flashing light on top and a person who kept driving on the opposite side of the vehicle delivered your mail.  But turns out they do!  And kids love them!  At least mine do.  They see ours coming down the side of the road and wait impatiently for him to come.

Challenge:

Have your kids sneak their artwork with a thank you into the mailbox or hand deliver to your local post office.  Friendly note, take into consideration lunch time and after work tend to be busy times for people to run the errand to the post office.

Then spread the word!

Take a photo and post on Facebook or instagram and use the #BeHisGood or feel free to email me and I’ll post for you ;) carly@sixnotesclothing.com .  Then encourage others to join you in saying thank you to our postal men and women.

Thank you for joining us this week in being His good.

Be His Good Challenge - Week 2

#BeHisGood

Week 2 of our Be His Good challenge is a shout out to our modern day heroes.  Firemen.  Even though my kids have never seen a real live fire beyond the one in our backyard.  Or really haven't seen a fireman or woman in action.  They are still obsessed.  They love the big red trucks that have the big loud sirens.  We put firemen and women on a pedestal in our house.  So this week they'll be extra excited (and probably extra nervous) to meet their real live heroes and say thank you for all that they do and the sacrifice that they make.

A Firetruck or firemen  I found these two crafts to be adorable; we'll actually see how this goes with my three and five year old.  It could turn out great, it could be a big yellow and orange blob on a red piece of paper.  It's the thought that counts right?!  Just enjoy the project and teach the kids all about Firefighters and how they help our city.  Go to the local library and find firetruck books.  Remember this challenge is more about the purpose and less about the project.

Challenge:  Find your local fire station, call ahead if you need, and allow your children to hand off their beautiful artwork and say thank you to the men and women who keep them safe.

Then spread the word!

Take a photo and post on Facebook or instagram and use the #BeHisGood or feel free to email me and I’ll post for you ;) carly@sixnotesclothing.com .   Then encourage others to join you in saying thank you to the men and women at your local firestation!

Not feelin’ crafty:  buy donuts, bake cookies, color a picture.  Anything goes.

Week 1 - Be His Good Challenge

#BeHisGood

It's week one of our Be His Good Challenge!  Thank you for joining us.  Up first on our list to reach out to and thank with a simple act of kindess is your local Florist!

I love this time of year with all the fresh flowers and greenery, be it the outdoor nursery or your local flower shops.  If my husband weren't allergic to bees and my thumb was green and not brown, my yard would be filled with flowers.  So this week we want to send back the love to you local florists and nursery and greenhouse gurus.

A Flower.   Do one of these beautiful flowers or create a version or even a whole bouquet.  Use any supplies you want or follow the instructions listed below the photos in the link.  Also take this time to explain all the care that goes into flowers that these beautiful people do every day to your children.  Explain that plants need water, soil and sun.  By the end of this craft,  you'll be able to home-school your children!  (just kidding)

You can take it a step further and even explain that they have the ability to plant a seed for God in others by sharing the Gospel and who Jesus is!  Then along the way it is up to God to put others in their life to water and help it grow.  However if you are like my family, mad chaos happens with the glue, scissors and markets and any plans to enlighten or educate the children quickly goes out the window.

Challenge:

After the project is finished, write a simple thank you whether on the back of the artwork or a separate card. Find your local nursery or flower shop and hand off your beautiful artwork.

Then spread the word!

Take a photo and post on Facebook or instagram and use the #BeHisGood or feel free to email me and I’ll post for you ;) carly@sixnotesclothing.com .  Then encourage others to join you in saying thank you to their local flower shops and nurseries for all that they do in providing us smiles with fresh flowers.  Am I not right ladies... if a husband brings home flowers... you instantly smile and love him a bit more.

Thank you for joining my children and I this week in being His good

Not a flower fan?  here are additional ideas:
City Bus Drivers, Pediatricians, Nurses, Bus Boys, Waitresses, Construction Workers,  Neighbors, your neighbor’s dog.  Think anyone people…

Not feelin’ crafty:
buy donuts, bake cookies, color a picture (we hold on to old coloring pictures and send out sometimes!) pay for the people behind you in the drive thru… or just buy a $5 gift card!  Options are endless.  There is no bad way to thank a person.  (I guess if you get technical there is)
