Why the Amborella House

I met Terri, the founder of Amborella House, two years ago at a conference she was speaking at.  Her accolades run deep but more importantly her heart is full and out pours with love and wisdom.  You are instantly drawn to her and know God has been using her to do wonders for His Kingdom.  

Fast-forward to this past summer.  We were invited to a fundraising event for the Amborella House by her daughter who works at our church.  It was a simple event but impacting.  I realized that sexual exploitation and trafficking was not just a thing in the movies but was literally happening in our backyards.  But what I was impressed about most was the heart and vision Terri and her board shared with us.  I have no doubt that this organization is sound, experienced, well thought-out, and most importantly full of love for these women. 

I love the name and meaning behind the Amborella House.  The Amborella is a flower of exquisite strength that has survived for thousands of years and is considered the longest living species in the world.

The name "Amborella House" was chosen for this important house because it represents incredible strength, beauty, courage and determination as well as a reminder of just how uniquely and wonderfully made every single detail of God's creation is.

God has big plans for the Amborella House.  This organization is needed.  It's foundation is solid in Christ and full of wisdom and people who genuinely care.  I'm so grateful to play a small part in the eternal impact they will make in these women's lives.

2017 Fall Line Photoshoot Preview

I LOVE photoshoot day.  The anticipation always kills me, I rarely sleep the night before, I feel like I'm on cloud9 the entire day and then usually crash at the end of the night with a big ol' smile on my face full of peace and a grateful heart knowing that God is going to use this clothing line to bless so many people.

This year was no different.  We started the morning bright and early with a starbucks, peeled our eyes open to put on a few fake lashes, hung out and chatted like school girls and planned our outfits for the day and then headed off to our photoshoot destination at the Little Log Cabin. (which by the way is ah-mazing) 

But there was something about this photoshoot,  maybe it was the starbucks... but guessing it was the friends that I was surrounded by and the sun filled day God blessed us with.

Crowding Our Hearts

This is how John ends his first epistle so you know it’s one of his most important and pressing issues he wants to get across.

"Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God's place in your hearts." - 1 John 5:21

So many things flood our lives throughout the day. Success, materialism, and even though it might not be replacing God, add it all up and it sure can crowd God right out of our hearts. 

Guilty. Right here.

How often that happens. It's like planning for a first birthday party, marriage, baptism/dedication, big business deal. So many times the planning, the activities, and the hype crowd out the real reason to celebrate.  Sometimes our blessings that God alone has given us, we have allowed to crowd him right out.

The only way to combat... Slow down, take a breath and breathe in all of God into your hearts. Rewire your focus, your brain. Get into a study, a quiet morning with him to start your day off right. Create moments where life is focused on Him and Him alone.

Praying God alone fills our hearts. 

Living For His Cross

"If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross and follow me."  Matthew 16:24

Jesus tells his disciples this after the first prediction of his death. Basically telling them following me is a true commitment. A commitment that may risk death.

How often I think we take following Jesus light hearted. When we except Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we declare our life is about to change.  This means changing who we are, changing our speech and actions, serving and giving to others, speaking truth and acting in love, connecting with God and growing our relationship with him, putting him first, and it means turning from our selfish ways, accepting his love and hardships/persecutions and following him.

Verse 25 and 26 go with this verse. They may be familiar to you and I encourage you to read them, dive deep and grow in him.  Whether you've believed in Jesus your whole life or for just 10 minutes, decide today is the day you invest in your relationship with Him.  Decide today is the day you take up your cross and allow Him to consume you.
