Christmas Prayer - The One Thing

Prayer this prayer today - may we loosen our grip on the things we need and hold them out to the Savior instead to receive Him.

The One Thing

We hold tight to the things we think we need.

Spending ourselves for what we can get.

Searching for the greatest, the biggest, the best.

How quickly and easily we forget.

Only one thing is needed.

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

The image of the invisible God.

He came so that we could have life and have it to the full.

The fullness of God was born for us.

He holds nothing back.

He offers all of us- all of himself.

The True Gift is the Giver of every good and perfect gift.

He IS abundantly more.

He gifts US abundantly more.

The greatest gift is freely given

without regret or reservation.

The only thing we really need

is to loosen our grip and open our hands to receive.

Heavenly Father,

May we learn to let go of the things we shouldn’t hold

and live out of his abundance.

May his gifts be an overflow

from our open hands into the world around us.

For his Kingdom and for his glory.

Amen.

Prayer before Bible Study

Often times we drop right into our to do. Our study plan. Let’s journal quick, write down our devotional answers and move on. I’m just as guilty as the next person. But studying the Bible is not meant to be a check list item. It’s meant to slow us down, reshift our focus from an earthly perspective to a kingdom one. It’s meant to remind us that this world and our life is not about us, but about Him.

Pray this prayer before you begin. Yearn to study Him, getting to know Him verses what’s in it for us.

Morning Prayer

Pray this as you start your day today.

Lord as the day begins

help me start anew.

Learning from yesterday’s struggles,

forgiving and healing from yesterday’s pain.

Prepare my feet for mission,

my heart for service and love.

Ready my hands for helping

and open my eyes to the needs

you want me to see.

Clear the destructions,

bring praise to my lips.

I am yours today, Lord,

lead me to where you

would have me be.

Who is the I Am

I sat one morning just thinking about who God really is.  And how completely complexed He truly is.  There is a reason that I AM is used to describe Him because nothing on earth can truly grasp His greatness and wonder.

I sit and wonder,
I ponder.
My heart yearns to know,
so I ask Him
“who is the I am?”

“My ways are easy
yet I am perplexed to understand.

I am both perfect peace
and the thunder in the storm.
A father to the poor and hurting
a ruler over the mighty nations.
I am both now and then
the present and future

I am the blacksmith that refines,
the potter who shapes and forms,
the gardener who prunes,
the shepherd who leads,
and the king that rules.

My ways are simple
yet they are not easy.
I am the I am
and there is not one like me.

Take comfort in the unknowns.
Be soothed by my power.
Be stirred by my peace.

For I am
and will always be.”

Pray This Instead

We serve an omnipresent God.

Will we ever truly understand the term omnipresent? We might know what it means but do we truly attribute the power, wonder and awe that is behind the word?

Be reminded of how awe inspiring it is that we serve a God that is Omnipresent and we get to connect with Him personally at any moment in time.
