Christmas Come Early - SALE

At first I thought the idea of holding a Christmas sale in October was crazy!  But then I was in Carters the other day, and a lady was Christmas shopping.  And not just Christmas shopping, she had one stop left before she finished!

So then I decided not to feel bad about bleeding green, red and all things tinsel.  I decided to embrace this October Christmas sale, because well,  our baby #3 comes in less than a month and I don't feel the least bit of shame trying to bribe you into shopping a bit earlier to keep life a tiny bit more calm for our family.  (I actually do feel a little bad b/c we usually have a strict rule to celebrate Halloween before any talk of Christmas starting up, but I did wait to have our Christmas Open House until Nov. 5th!)

Okay the bribe...

Message of Be Humble, Gentle, Patient

My anthem as a mom.  I wear these shirts constantly to be reminded of gentleness and patience.  However,  the message behind these garments go much deeper.  It gives us the key to find unity.  Unity as a family, as a church, and as a nation.

Humble. Gentle. Patient.

Why?

Because of our love.

I think we all understand the impact that gentleness and patience can have in a relationship, however, we underestimate the negative affect of pride and how a humble heart can overcome so much.

Pride destroys.  It destroys the heart.  It destroys trust.  It destroys relationships.  Over and over again, Jesus teaches us to humble ourselves, to be a servant because those who humble themselves before the Lord will be lifted in honor.  Those who seek to serve, throwing worldly status out the window will be honored.  Those who are last will be first. And those first will be last.

The book of Ephesians is a powerful book.  The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the Church of Ephesus.  He wanted to encourage them as a church; to explain the purpose of the church and share how we as Christians should live.  He gives them guidelines and traits to gather them together as one church with one mission.  These guidelines still stand today.

In my mind one of the most powerful verses in Ephesians is chapter 4 verse 1.  " Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God."    It's a verse to show us how God can accomplish infinitely more than we can ask or think if we just lead the life of His calling.  What kind of life?  An Eph. 4:2 life.  One that’s humble, gentle, patient, accepting, and loving.  One full of love.  A deep love that reflects his true love for us. For our greatness witnessing tool is our own life.

Reflect His love.

Hope Is In You

We put our hope in the Lord.

He is our help and our shield.

In him our hearts rejoice,

for we trust in his holy name.

Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord,

for our hope is in you alone.

Psalm 33:20-22

Message Behind Be The Good

Revisiting the message behind our Be The Good apparel, because it's the message that truly matters.

"Don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good." - Romans 12:21

There is more to this verse. There is a chapter instructing us on what good we can do. The type of good that is God honoring. I encourage you to read chapter 12 in Romans. I love how my Bible sections it out and labels it. "How to behave" this whole section beyond just chapter 12 is Paul giving the Roman Christians (because that is who he is writing to) guidelines for living as redeemed people in a fallen world.

This verse, chapter, section is so applicable to us today. Actually most of the bible is we just have to dig into each verse and find the meaning. But here, Paul puts it out there for us. It's how we can live out our faith each day impacting those around us. Most of us aren't preachers and sharing God's word is daunting. But living out our personal responsibilities for God's kingdom, showing our faith at work, we can all do.

So what does he say:

  • Use are talents we were blessed with
  • Don't pretend to love others, really love them
  • Hate wrong, hold onto the right
  • Love with genuine affection
  • Honor others
  • Never be lazy, work hard and enthusiastically for the Lord
  • Rejoice in our hope
  • Be patient in troubles
  • Be eager to practice hospitality
  • Bless those who persecute us, never curse
  • Be happy with others, weep with others
  • Live in harmony
  • Don't be proud
  • Be humble
  • Don't take revenge
  • Live in peace

Basically "don't let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good" the good that we listed above.

Challenging myself to live out his goodness, deciding today to put my faith into action.
