Book of Amos Reflection: Whom Will You Serve

Choose this day whom you will serve….

How easy it is to forget

to be so caught up and consumed

with the things of the immediate

that our worlds become quite small.

Unaware and unaffected

we can’t see past ourselves at all.

But beyond our own backyards

and far from our four walls

a whole wide hurting and broken world is waiting.

For healing. For hope.

For truth. For life.

Oh Lord, give us eyes to see

the things that matter most to Thee.

To loose the chains of oppression

To care for the widow and the orphan

To open the eyes of the blind and to set the captives free.

By the power of your Holy Spirit

help us to be a reflection of you in all that we say and all that we do.

Whatever you ask and whenever you call

may our answer always be-

Here I am. Send me.

You Are The God Who...

Some days we just need to reflect on who God is to remember how great of a God we serve and are loved by.

You are the God who creates.

The God who faithfully instructed Noah.

Who promises a legacy to Abraham.

Who scatters the proud Babelonians.

Who wrestles with Jacob.

The One who takes care of Joseph.

The One who delivers Moses.

Leads His people through the wilderness.

Who protects those like Caleb who believe.

The One who falls our enemies of Jericho

Who fulfills our destinies like Joshua

The One who is thunder and power, yet the One who comes to us in a whisper. The One who orders the Cosmos and balances the Galaxies yet you quiet our anxious souls. You rule over the rulers of this world and lead the quiet shepherd.

You are the God of the mighty and the weak. God of authority and lowley. The God who was faithful then, is faithful now, and will always be.

Help me to remember the God of the Bible is the God of today and the God of my heart.

Morning Prayer

Pray this as you start your day today.

Lord as the day begins

help me start anew.

Learning from yesterday’s struggles,

forgiving and healing from yesterday’s pain.

Prepare my feet for mission,

my heart for service and love.

Ready my hands for helping

and open my eyes to the needs

you want me to see.

Clear the destructions,

bring praise to my lips.

I am yours today, Lord,

lead me to where you

would have me be.

A Prayer For When Tragedy Strikes

I was reading in my Psalms for Praying book today and read the prayer below. It felt very fitting in lieu of recent events and wanted to share. In all honesty, when dark tragedies like these strike, you lose words. You don’t know how to prayer and that’s all you want to do. It’s okay to find those guided prayers. Prayers of lament and frustration. Open up your Bible and turn to Psalms and Lamentations; a perfect place to go to.. Then just be still in the silence and sit in the frustration, sadness and even hope and longing for our eternal coming.

Prayer For The Uninspired

I sit here dried up, uninspired

pen in hand, but not to paper

My mind anywhere but here

my mornings dull and dry

My heart is thirsting for you

but my head distracted and my soul so weary

I know I’ll find life in your words

but my eyes just pass over and glaze

Oh show me the way

clear my head

consume my thoughts

breakthrough my soul

and flood my spirit

Help me out of this wilderness

this desert

and to the well

Lift your cup to my lips

for a taste of your goodness

Melt my hurry and worry

Chip away what this world has hardened

May this body be revived by your spirit

my soul renewed with your word

my head filled with your perfect peace

and my mind surrender to your will

As you breathed life into the dust in the Garden,

breathe life into my wilderness now.

We praise you, Oh God.

Amen
